The Challenge: Tony Thompson contacted us on behalf of his 92-year-old mother, who lives in her Edmonds home and wants to stay there. She could no longer safely climb in and out of her old bathtub — her bathroom had a dated fiberglass tub-and-shower combo with sliding glass doors, a real fall hazard. Tony and his family wanted her home to be safe for her, and that meant converting the bathroom into something fully accessible.
What We Built: We removed the old tub and installed a fully ADA-compliant, curbless walk-in shower with large-format light gray tile on the walls and floor, a ceiling-mounted rain showerhead, a handheld shower wand on a slide bar, and multiple stainless steel grab bars placed at the right heights throughout. The zero-threshold entry eliminates the step-over risk entirely, and the mosaic tile floor provides excellent grip underfoot. Project completed in under a week.

My mom is 92 and she really wants to stay in her house. She just couldn’t climb into her bathtub safely anymore. We had the bathtub removed and everything converted into a walk in shower. They tiled the floor as well as the walls to make it strong enough to support a wheelchair if we ever need to. There are handrails for extra safety.
